Frequently Asked Questions
Find quick answers to common questions about NoCopium Trade Journal, Free, Pro, importing trades, backups, analytics, and more.
Free and Pro
Do I uninstall Free when I buy Pro?
No. Keep NoCopium Trade Journal installed. Pro works alongside the Free plugin, and your existing trades remain in the same journal.
See the Buying Pro documentation for information about activating Pro.
Does Free import Tastytrade CSVs?
No. Free includes manual trade entry. Tastytrade CSV importing and Analytics are Pro features.
Is there a license key to enter in WordPress?
Yes. When you purchase and activate the Pro add-on through Freemius, Freemius emails you a license key.
Enter that license key in WordPress to activate Pro. The license is not managed from the NoCopium Settings page.
Do I need a license to use Free?
No. The Free plugin does not require a license.
Does Pro create a separate journal?
No. Pro uses the same journal as Free. Imported and manually entered trades all live together in the same Trade Journal.
Moving Your Data
How do I move my journal to another WordPress site?
Use Settings → Backup / Restore.
Download a JSON backup from the original site and restore it on another WordPress site that has NoCopium installed. The destination journal must contain zero trades before the backup can be restored.
Why won’t my backup restore?
The destination NoCopium journal must contain no trades. If the site contains sample data or existing trades, remove them first.
You do not need a brand-new WordPress installation.
Will my trade screenshots move with my backup?
No. The backup stores the screenshot URL, but the actual image files remain in the original site’s WordPress Media Library.
If you move the journal to another website, you may need to re-upload the screenshots.
Can I move only some accounts?
Yes. When creating a backup, you can select which accounts to include.
Dashboard and Trade Journal
Why doesn’t the Dashboard match the Trade Journal?
The two screens use different default filters. The Free Dashboard shows year-to-date performance, while the Trade Journal defaults to All Time.
The Dashboard also excludes trades marked Needs Review from its performance calculations.
Check the account and date range on both screens when comparing results.
Can I change the Dashboard date range?
Free is limited to year to date. Pro adds the Range menu, allowing you to view different periods such as This Month, This Quarter, Last 3 Months, Last 12 Months, and All Time.
Why isn’t my open trade included in my P&L?
Open trades do not have realized P&L yet. They are shown as open positions but are not included in realized P&L, Profit Factor, strategy performance, or other closed-trade statistics until they are closed.
Why is my trade marked Needs Review?
Needs Review means that information required to complete the trade is missing. This commonly happens when an imported CSV contains a closing transaction but the corresponding opening transaction is not available.
Use the pencil icon to complete the trade. Needs Review trades are excluded from performance statistics until they are fixed.
Logging and Managing Trades
What is the difference between Open New Trade and the pencil icon?
Open New Trade creates a new trade using the step-by-step wizard. The pencil icon edits a trade that already exists and opens the full trade editor.
The pencil does not create a duplicate trade.
What does the checkmark do?
The checkmark on an Open trade opens the Close Trade screen. It is designed specifically for entering the exit information and closing the trade.
The pencil opens the complete trade editor instead.
How do I record a roll?
Record the roll as a new trade. Do not add the closing legs of the original position to the original trade.
This keeps the original trade and the rolled position as separate journal records.
Can I enter a trade that is already closed?
Yes. Use Open New Trade and complete the Already Closed? section with the closing information.
Can I edit an imported trade?
Yes. Imported trades become normal NoCopium journal trades. Use the pencil icon to change the strategy, add notes, add mindset information, correct trade details, or complete a Needs Review trade.
Accounts
Can I track more than one brokerage account?
Yes. You can create multiple accounts and filter your Dashboard and Trade Journal by account. Analytics also uses the selected account when analyzing performance.
What happens if I delete an account?
Deleting an account permanently deletes that account and every trade belonging to it.
There is no undo. Export or back up your journal before deleting an account if you are unsure.
Can I combine multiple accounts?
Yes. Selecting All Accounts combines the results of all accounts. You can also select an individual account to review it separately.
Tastytrade Import
Can I import trades from brokers other than Tastytrade?
Not at this time. NoCopium currently supports Tastytrade CSV imports.
Support for additional brokers may be added in the future if there is enough interest.
Why did one Tastytrade campaign import as two or more trades?
NoCopium groups Tastytrade fills that share the same Order #. If a trading structure was created through separate orders, the CSV does not tell NoCopium that those orders belong together.
For example, a Poor Man’s Covered Call may contain a LEAP opened as one order and short calls opened through later orders. Those may therefore import as separate trades.
You can retag them in the import preview or later in the Trade Journal.
Does Tastytrade import fill IVR or VIX?
No. Tastytrade CSV files do not provide the IVR or VIX information NoCopium uses for its analysis.
If you want to analyze trades by IVR or VIX, enter those values in the journal.
Does Tastytrade import mindset or Followed Plan?
No. Mindset at Open and Followed/Broke Plan are journal fields that must be recorded manually.
Can NoCopium connect directly to my Tastytrade account?
No. NoCopium imports a Tastytrade CSV file. It does not maintain a live connection to your brokerage account.
Can I undo an import?
No. There is no Undo Import function.
Review the trades carefully before clicking Confirm & Import to Journal. Export or back up your journal first if you want an additional safety copy.
Analytics
Why is my Profit Factor extremely high or even ∞?
A very high Profit Factor usually means the selected Range has realized very little in losing trades. It does not mean you have discovered a 50× trading system.
Check the number of closed trades and the Typical Win vs. Loser measurement before drawing conclusions.
Why is IVR empty after importing trades?
Tastytrade CSV files do not contain IV Rank. You must enter IVR manually if you want to use IVR analysis.
Why is VIX empty after importing trades?
VIX is also not provided by the Tastytrade CSV. Enter VIX when recording the trade if you want to analyze results by VIX environment.
What does “Losing With 10+ Trades” mean?
The strategy or underlying is down on closed P&L in the selected Range and has at least 10 closed trades.
A losing strategy with only a few trades is considered a thin sample and does not receive the same warning.
Why doesn’t Analytics show my open trades in the performance numbers?
Analytics performance calculations are based on closed trades. Open trades are shown separately in the Open Trades section because their P&L has not been realized.
Why does Analytics show a different result than my brokerage account?
NoCopium analyzes the trades recorded in your journal. It is not a live account-value or brokerage-balance system.
Differences can occur because of open positions, missing or incomplete trades, different date ranges, fees, or information that has not been entered into the journal.
Public Journal and Privacy
Is the Public Journal enabled by default?
Yes. New installations have the Public Journal enabled.
You can disable it in Settings if you do not want your journal displayed on the front end of your website.
Why don’t I see my public journal?
Check Settings and make sure Enable Public Trade Journal is checked.
If the setting is enabled, make sure the appropriate NoCopium public journal shortcode has also been added to the WordPress page or post.
Do I have to make my journal public?
No. The Public Journal feature can be disabled in Settings.
You can also require visitors to be logged in before they can view it.
What does the Public Journal display?
The Public Journal displays information from your NoCopium journal using the available public journal shortcodes.
Before publishing it, make sure you are comfortable sharing your trade information and P&L.
Is NoCopium a multi-user trading journal?
No. The Public Journal is a public view of your journal. It is not designed as a multi-user trading platform.
Deleting and Uninstalling
Does deactivating the plugin erase my trades?
No. Simply deactivating NoCopium does not delete your journal.
What can permanently delete my trades?
Your data can be permanently removed by:
- Deleting an individual account
- Using Delete All Data
- Uninstalling NoCopium when the Delete all NoCopium tables when uninstalled option has been enabled and saved in Settings
These actions can be irreversible, so back up your journal first if you are unsure.
What happens if I uninstall NoCopium?
If the uninstall data-deletion option is disabled, your journal data is retained.
If you enabled the Delete all NoCopium tables when uninstalled option before uninstalling, the NoCopium data is permanently deleted.
General
Does NoCopium provide live market data?
No. NoCopium does not provide live quotes, IV, delta, or other real-time brokerage data.
These values can be recorded manually when entering a trade.
Does NoCopium tell me what trades to make?
No. NoCopium is a trading journal and analysis tool. It does not provide trading signals or tell you what to buy or sell.
Does NoCopium guarantee trading profits?
No. NoCopium is designed to help you record, analyze, and review your trading. It does not guarantee profitable results.
Where should I start if I’m new to NoCopium?
Start by creating an account in Settings, then use Open New Trade to record your trades.
Once you have some trading history, use the Dashboard for a quick overview and Analytics with Pro for deeper performance analysis.
